"Plans haven't been finalized", said Stacy Levsen, dean of the K-12 Catholic school system in Aberdeen. But, she said, Roncalli officials have been master planning with groups such as the school board to determine what renovations and upgrades the building needs.
“It was just an exciting process,” she said.
Levsen said the Colorado-based Eidos Architects - which works with Aberdeen's HKG Architects - will present a summary of that planning to Roncalli officials in August. Further steps will be determined at that point.
HKG and Eidos Architects were selected for the job through an interviewing process where they interviewed against Koch Hazard of Sioux Falls and Hula of Aberdeen.
Changes are needed because, while the building at 1400 N. Dakota St. is structurally sound, it's 45 years old, Levsen said.
Also, education - especially in the area of technology - is much different than it was when the school was built, she said. And the school was built for grades 9-12; today, it houses grades 7-12, she said.
